Tapalpa was known as Tlapálpan prior to the Spanish encounter in 1531. Tapalpa means land of abundant colors. Presently Tapalpa is one of four Pueblos Mágicos in the state of Jalisco. It is a beautiful and peaceful rural sanctuary. The natural landscape surrounding this unspoiled alpine puebla features forest streams, and lakes resting in the shadows of volcanoes.
Located 90 miles south of Guadalajara at an elevation of 2100 meters & has a population of 16,000. This historic town is a restful vacation spot surrounded by lakes and forests that feels a world away from the bustling traffic and big-city crowds of Guadalajara. With its adobe-walled houses, recently renovated central plaza and narrow streets lined with local merchants and artisans, Tapalpa maintains a small-town feel while offering some tourism-spurred big-city amenities including accommodating hotels and a variety of options for shopping and dining.
